Awarded to the interior designer who has integrated lighting into a (completed) design project in the most innovative and effective way. The lighting solution can be applied to a project in any sector – hospitality, F&B, residential, healthcare education etc – but must demonstrably improve the environment. The judges will be looking at the aesthetics, functionality, flexibility, lighting controls and energy efficiency of the lighting solution.

Awarded to the fit-out company that has completed the most impressive body of work in the Middle East in the past 12 months. The judges will be looking for contractors who translate fabulous interior designs into reality for their clients. They will also expect to see evidence of overcoming obstacles, working to time and budget, supply chain management, staying true to the design concept and managing client expectations.

Commercial Interior Design Awards will again host the American Hardwood Export Council to acknowledge the outstanding use of American hardwoods in a Middle East project. This can be any commercial development that significantly features American hardwoods in its design and execution.

Awarded to the individuals who are often overlooked. From CAD operators to administrators and design resource managers, these are the people whose daily dedication allows the ambitions of an interior designer to be realised.

Awarded to the best interior design concept for commercial projects in the Middle East, presented in the last 12 months. This category recognises the vision that interior designers have provided for projects that have not yet been completed. The judges will be looking at ambition and innovation but will also include practical concerns when reaching a decision.

This year, we’ve introduced the award for the best outdoor design. These include inspiring designs that make the great outdoors truly great within a hotel, restaurant or a residential property in the Middle East. The judges will also look at spatial planning, landscaping, the use of natural materials and sustainable solutions and how these exterior areas relate to their indoor spaces.

Awarded to the interior design firm with a staff of fewer than 20 employees in total that has completed the most impressive body of work in the past 12 months. Although nominee companies may be small in size, the judges will consider how they have made a disproportionately large impact in the industry and are regarded as “punching above their weight”.

Awarded to the interior design firm with 20 employees or more that has completed the most impressive work in the Middle East in the past 12 months. The judges will be looking for major players who constantly lead the design market in the region and are at the forefront of innovation. The provision of opportunities for emerging talent and the creation of an atmosphere that promotes creativity will also be taken into consideration.

Awarded for the best interior design in social spaces intended to encourage vibrant nightlife. The judges will reward projects that successfully combine different areas such as the bar itself, performance space, private and intimate areas along with spaces that promote social interaction. Besides the functionality, the judges will also take into consideration aesthetic qualities, original design elements and specific features that make the guest experience a memorable one.

Awarded for the best interior design of a restaurant or café project, with a creative concept and application. Judges will be looking at the venues with an extra edge that go beyond merely providing dining spaces. They will take into account both aesthetic qualities and practicality with the quality of the customer experience to the fore.

Awarded for the best interior design in a hotel project – an inspired scheme that pays close attention to conceptual coherence throughout a large, multifunctional space and which takes into the account the needs of members of staff and heightens guest experience. From the reception to the main lobby and public areas to all-day dining and F&B venues through to guest rooms, judges will evaluate the originality and consistency of the design language throughout the space, alongside its functionality, interior decoration and lighting. Information you may wish to include in this nomination includes the client’s brief, design concept, users’ feedback and inspirational mood boards.

Awarded for the best interior design for a corporate office space or place of business in the Middle East. While functionality is an obvious priority, aesthetics that foster collaborative work and creative thought will also be taken into account. Judges will be looking at how a company’s brand, culture and ethos have been translated into the overall scheme from reception area and break-out zones to meeting rooms, alongside the specific design features and bespoke elements, which enhance the efficiency of the workplace and promote well-being of the staff.

Awarded for the best interior design for a public sector space that is dedicated to public use. Projects suitable for further consideration are government buildings, museums and galleries, cinemas and theatres, schools and universities, airports or hospitals in the Middle East. Judges will be looking for designs that strongly reflect the requirements of stakeholders, but which also promote accessibility and innovation.

Awarded for the best interior design for a residential space in the Middle East – design projects that promote comfortable and healthy living standards and provide spaces for relaxation, family interaction and a retreat from the world at large. Alongside the spatial planning, the judges will be looking how the overall aesthetics respond to the client’s brief with an emphasis on selection of lighting, fixtures, furnishings and decorative elements.

Awarded for the best interior design within a retail outlet, shopping mall, or stand-alone unit in the Middle East. Projects suitable for further consideration are retails shops, showrooms, spas, salons, gyms and children play areas. Attractive shop fronts which entice customers through the doors and innovative and creative interiors which best showcase service, merchandise or goods on offer will both be important factors for the judges, alongside with the clever integration of the graphic designs as well as lighting solutions. The judges will also look how the brand core values are translated into the overall design scheme as well as how specific features influence the shopping experience, making it more memorable for the visitors.

Awarded to the most innovative commercial interior designer currently working in the Middle East. This will recognise a truly professional, forward-thinking individual who consistently delivers original, intelligent and effective design solutions for their clients. Apart from an impressive portfolio, influence on design in the region will also be an important factor, as well as testimonials from across the industry.

Introduced last year, we’re once again encouraging fit-out companies to submit projects they have completed in the Middle East in the last 12 months. Awarded to the interior contractor that delivers a consistently high standard of work and a high level of professionalism, and is respected by its industry peers. The judges will make their decision based on quality of fit-out and quality of execution for the overall concept.

Awarded to the most promising young (30 and under) commercial interior designer currently working in the Middle East. The judges will be looking at completed projects, but also taking into account ambitions for future developments. The recommendations and opinions of senior colleagues will be particularly valuable to the judges in reaching their final decision.
