This award recognizes one of the region’s most celebrated and established architects. A demonstrated commitment to dynamic yet feasible design and architecture that harmonises with its surrounding context is essential. Nominations for the award should acknowledge innovation, timelessness, aesthetic significance and inspiration within the architect’s entire body of work. A wealth of projects, both built and designed, will be necessary for consideration.

This award recognises those firms with less than 50 employees that have made the most significant impact on the GCC region through their work throughout the year, whether they specialise in traditional or modern architecture, or in villas or skyscrapers. Nominations for the award should demonstrate a large body of work from across the region, and special consideration will be given to firms incorporating unprecedented design, innovative materials, striking forms and eco-friendliness.

This award recognises the year’s best commercial project. Nominations for the award should acknowledge projects or project designs that provide an excellent working environment for employees, at the same time making the most of sustainable initiatives in a sector that is traditionally very energy reliant. Project should be at least 80% complete at the time of entering.

Nominations for the award should acknowledge projects or project designs that provide an environment that encourages the exploration of cultural themes, such as museums, galleries or performance spaces. This category is aimed at recognising excellent, innovation and sustainability in an initial idea for a project across the entire architectural spectrum.

Nominations for the award should acknowledge innovation, leadership and inspiration as well as demonstrating decision-making skills, professionalism and vision.

This category is open to all projects in the public sector including education establishments such as kindergardens, school, colleges or universities and will take into consideration both aesthetics and practicality for the general public that they were designed for. Project should be at least 80% complete at the time of entering.

This award recognises the year’s best residential project. Nominations for the award should acknowledge projects or project designs that provide a comfortable and attractive living environment for residents in the GCC. Project should be at least 80% complete at the time of entering.

This award recognises the year’s most environmentally sensitive project. Nominations for the award should acknowledge projects that most completely embody a commitment to energy-efficiency and environmental responsibility. Nominations can adhere to any of the criteria for any internationally sanctioned (i.e. LEED, BREEAM, Green Star, Estidama etc.) sustainability assessment tools. Project should be at least 80% complete at the time of entering.

This award recognizes one of the region’s most promising young architects (under 35) and his/her commitment to strong design, innovative solutions and progressive projects. Nominations for the award should acknowledge the potential within the candidate, not necessarily his/her demonstrated body of work.

This award recognises the best international project designed by a UAE-based firm in the past year. Nominations for the award should acknowledge the project’s sustainable elements, as well as its consideration of its context, endusers and client needs. Projects can span various sectors and they need to have been completed between October 2018 – August 2019, or at least 40% complete. UAE-based firms include locally established practices as well as international companies with UAE branches. Submissions should include visual proof of the project’s status.

This award recognises the best masterplan project in the Middle East or North Africa. Nominations for the award should acknowledge the project’s consideration of its context, endusers and client needs, as well as offer innovative solutions to current problems facing masterplanning in the region. Projects need to have been completed between October 2018 – August 2019 or at least 40% constructed, and submissions should include visual proof of the project’s status.
